Our story, mission, and the people behind the change.
Kaana Foundation for Outreach Programs (KAFOP) is a non‑profit, non‑partisan organization based in Fort Portal, Uganda. Founded in 2007 by a team of young and senior WASH+HIV professionals, we are dedicated to empowering vulnerable young people, women, and children through sustainable community interventions.
Our Vision: To empower over 10,000 people living with HIV—including at least 5,000 women—to develop and implement technically sound and culturally appropriate sustainable solutions related to HIV+WASH in their communities, benefiting at least 1,000,000 people by 2030.
Our Mission: Our initiatives are focused on coordinating efforts to ensure that underserved demographic groups have access to safe water and sanitation, healthcare services, and their legal rights. We raise public awareness through outreach programs and campaigns, influence policymakers through legislative advocacy, and build strong coalitions with organizations that share our values.
Our work is concentrated in the Rwenzori region of Southwestern Uganda, where we operate across 10 districts: Fort Portal City, Kabarole, Bunyangabu, Kamwenge, Kitagwenda, Kyenjojo, Kyegegwa, Kasese, Ntoroko, and Bundibugyo. We align our interventions with the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs 3, 6, and 13) and the UNAIDS 95‑95‑95 targets.
Headquarters: Mucwa Complex, Fort Portal, Uganda.
Our Impact To-Date (2007–2023): We have benefited over 100,000 people across primary schools, health centres, and community households, raising over $300,000 USD in funding to implement HIV+WASH programmes.
Our Staff: KAFOP comprises 25 young and senior professionals with diverse backgrounds including law, social work, environmental science, nursing, finance, information and documentation, and education.
Our Values: Integrity, Teamwork, Transparency, Empowerment, Service Above Self, Confidentiality, Equality, and Non-Discrimination.
Guiding Principles: We are committed to non-discrimination for all; active participation of beneficiaries and stakeholders; delivering high quality, effective and result-oriented services; and building action-oriented partnerships with like-minded CBOs, NGOs, and CSOs based on trust and mutual cooperation.
We work with government, international donors, and civil society organizations to deliver lasting impact.
